My work
Sometimes when I go back down memory lane I can't help but
admire the advancements that I have made in my career.....but
as Robert Frost says "there's miles to go before I sleep."
From the days of tweaking with the AT computer eleven years
back to getting a chance to work with Windows XP, it sure
has been a long eventful journey. My initial days were hardly
a bed of roses. I had to struggle the hard way..... realising
early that computer knowledge was hard to come by in my rustic
town of Mayiladuthurai I made the brave decision of coming
to Chennai. After being esconsed in the laid back life at
my town, the cut throat "dog-eat-dog" competitiveness
of Chennai was a shock..... but I quickly got myself into
the groove.
I started off as a part-time computer operator in Kanara
Advertising (1995). Then a serandapic situation saw me jump
into Desk Top Publising. This is where the seeds of my design
abilities were sown. Then on it took roots and how has grown
into a full fledged tree. I give below the highlights of my
web related works.
Corporate website of Chemplast
Sanmar Group (www.sanmargroup.com
)
My first foray into webdesign happened at Kalamkriya, the
design arm of Sanmar Group. I was given the task of creating
the corporate website for the sanmar group plus a multimedia
presentation for Sanmar Engineering Corporation. A huge task
indeed for a rookie like me but I took the task head on. I
successfuly completed the project.......a full 250 page website
at that. I would never forget this achievement 'coz the website
was hosted exactly on my birthdate on April 4th. My profound
gratitude will always be there to Mrs.Shankar Cheif Executive
of Kalamkriya and Mr.Vijayasankar, Executive Director of Sanmar
Engineering Corporation for bestowing tremendous faith and
confidence in my abilities.
India Macromedia User Group
(www.indiaMMUG.org)
This site takes a pride of place in my collection. This is
the official website of the India Macromedia User Group. Macromedia,
as most of you know, is the equivalent of Microsoft for design
softwares. I was chosen as the head of the Web Design commitee
and it was a wonderful experience to co-rodinate with other
designers to get this site done. This website is meant for
the design community and has won accolades from peers.
New York UCON 1999 Summit
(www.indiaMMUG.org/summit/)
After seeing the commendable work done by the members of the
India Macromedia User Group, Macromedia gave us the opportunity
to design a website specially for the Macromedia Users Conference
that was held at The Hilton in New York on April 10 to 12.
This is the website that was meant for all the Macromedia
User Groups around the world...... a very prestigious work
to have indeed. With a lot of dedication and spirit, we built
this site exactly in a single night ....from planning, design,
development, hosting... EVERYTHING was done in a single night.
I'm proud of this work, especially more so when I hear that
the leaders of the international user groups from the USA,
UK, Germany to down under Australia complimented on the good
work done. Am proud indeed.
Template based site builder
(www.OnlineSiteCreator.net)
You would see a single site here but it is the equivalent
of doing over 25 site because of the effort that has gone
into this. With stringent pre-defined rules set, I had to
work within the framerules that stretched my abilitites. This
site is meant to helps even a novice to build a website quick
by choosing his own templates.
Corporate website of Antarix e
Applications Limited (Dinesh Dalmia is the Founder-Chairman and Managing Director of DSQ group of
Companies)
I'm always charged up when I work on corporate wesbites. So
when I was chosen to the small team entrusted with the responsibility
of designing the corporate website of Antarix I jumped at
it. In a little ovr three days, our team got this 60 page
website up and running. We paid a lot of attention to usability
matters and am proud to say that this one of the very few
corporate sites that adhere to the suggestions laid out by
the World Wide Web Consortium.
India's first voice portal site
(www.juzzfone.com)
The brief given to us for doing this site is as follows :
1) Keep the design simple, easy to navigate and fast to download
2) Finish it in one days time
And we did just that. Sometimes I wonder why do all projects
come with "I-need-the-work-done-yesterday" deadlines
!! Usability was again top on our priority.
Corporate website for UK based
company (www.totalsysinc.com)
We had to adhere to strict quality measures gives to us by
the management of this UK based company. We put in our ideas
together and got this 80 page website done in three days time.
Much to our relief and happiness, the client liked the work.
Nothing tastes sweet like success. Now I'm more than confident
of taking on more international projects.
E-Commerce website
(www.theITdepot.com)
One of my early forays into web designing. This was a time
when the entreprenuerial bug had bitten me and had joined
hands with a couple of my friends to take up individual projects.
At this time I chanced upon Mr.Vel who was wanting to build
an ecommerce website for computer products. With amateurism
smeared all over us and fresh into the industry, when we approached
him to do the job, he took faith in us and gave us the order.
From then on, we slogged deep into the
wee hours of mornings and poured our heart and soul into this
project. Mr.Vel liked our work so much that he now entrusts
all his design work to us. Keeping a client happy and getting
repeat orders from him is the best testimony of good work.
Official website of Usability
Professionals Group (www.netusability.org)
My quest for designing easily navigable user friendly websites
made me join the UPG. Here I took active interest and took
ove r the task of building the website for the group. Having
taken the responsibility to build the official website, I
had to make sure that the site adheres to all the usability
rules that the site would eventually preach. I was under quite
a bit of pressure.... I made sure I read a lot on usability
and after extensive research on the subject then began my
work on this website. Now I'm happy that my hard work has
borne fruits and am proud that this site has passed the testing
of W3C standards.
Website for Women
(www.ThePowerWoman.com)
This is a women's portal. So what you might ask... Well,
this is a site which was built over the SLASH engine. I dabbled
my hands in Perl which helped me make over my image as a programmer
from a hardcore designer.
Website for the Elderly
(www.SeniorScapes.com)
As the name goes, this site was aimed at the elderly.
My involvement was in the HTMLisation of the site which was
integrated with the SLASH engine.
Official website of R. Madhavan
(www.rmadhavan.com)
R.Madhavan is the heart throb of the tamil industry and the
star of hit films like Alaipayuthey. I was part of the four
member team that built the initial website with direct consultation
with the actor. Right now this site is maintained by another
team.
